Scrambled Eggs - Marquette Basketball

Now that we're dancing, lets talk about that and less about the tire fire that was the BET

We've got a lot of ground to cover this podcast so we have to hit the ground running. First we highlight the bracket reveals and where MU stands before we turn to dissecting the Big East Tournament. We talk about exercising the St John's demons and then turn to the $hitshow that was the Seton Hall game. We talk about officiating travashamockeries, finding a new hated rival in the Big East, and how MU recovers from the result. We then talk about Markus Howard's performance in the Big East Tournament and whether we think he is more injured then they are letting on or if he is tired. We then get to the topic on everyone's mind, is MU going to win an NCAA Tournament game (would be first in Wojo's tenure)? So we talk match ups with Murray State, and can MU stop Ja Morant. We also talk about what happens if MU advances and the MU bracket generally, with the idea that we're generally pretty satisfied with the draw and we just have to hope MU can play up to it's potential. We're going with a complement sandwich....and it's a lot Arby's roast beef in the middle

This is....not good. To keep from spiraling to far, we are going to approach this pod as a Stewie Griffin "complement sandwich". So first we talk about the All Big East Team awards for Markus, Sam, and Joey. Then we pivot to the giant, awful, no good month of March for Marquette. We talk about all the things that went wrong in the Georgetown game and ask ourselves "do we have any confidence left"? We talk about how the narrative of this season has completely changed and if there is an extension coming for Wojo they need to bury the announcement on a busy news day. It's then time to talk Big East tournament with it's seemingly inevitable rematch with St Johns, which we are not looking forward to. We try to talk ourselves into Marquette pulling itself together for post-season play but neither of us can really muster that conviction. We then close out the complement sandwich with a congratulations to Bradley, coached by MU great Brian Wardle, as they secure an NCAA tournament big. Enjoy?

What in the damn hell?

To borrow from Monty Python "And now for something completely different".....Back to back losses for Marquette in which the team seemingly pre-gamed both times with Crisco has left us flummoxed. We first talk about the way MU lost and why a seemingly clutch team is now not. We then talk about what can be done to correct it and what happens if it is not. We then close out with some analysis of how the end of the regular season might go. Enjoy?

If you thought we were cocky before

It's a bit jarring if you think about it, but from the jump we're talking about hanging banners. The background, Nova lost again over the weekend giving MU the chance to win a share of the Big East title on Wednesday night against Villanova. So we spend a while talking about what that feels like and what happens if MU can go into a dangerous environment and beat the current kings of the Big East. We then talk about the game itself and whether we are finally starting to feel confident enough that a road win against Villanova is now more likely than not. We then talk about the Creighton game and whether it is a trap game or just another game we should all be vigilant but relaxed about. We also spend some time talking about what kind of monster wants a Big East Tournament title versus a regular season title. All in all, we are pretty stoked for the closing days of the regular season and the possibility that next week we are talking about your Big East champions, Marquette. Enjoy!

Well that was kind of an easy week.

It was an oddly anti-climatic week with no real anxiety to be found, but we'll take it. We start the discussion out with the fact that thanks to St John's off all people, Marquette controls it's own destiny in the race to the regular season title against Villanova. We talk through the scenario's and how we think MU will do down the stretch. We then talk the success of Operation Don't Lose to DePaul and how it was kind of a cakewalk which is....unusual. Next we check in on the Markus tracker to predict if he will become Marquette's all-time leading scorer this season. We then turn to the week ahead and forecast how MU will do following the buy week with two must win games if they want to keep the championship dreams alive. We close out the pod by revisiting the Henry Ellenson decision now that he has been cut by Detroit and his NBA career to be on life support. Enjoy!

Big win on National Marquette Day and almost nothing else matters to us

After a week hiatus because one of us decided to go skiing and drinking Colorado craft brews (but not at the same time), we come back to largely very good news. We jump right into breaking down the exciting win of Villanova on what feels like the first time in a long time that MU won on National Marquette Day. We analyze the game, how it finished, and what level of concern we had in the closing minutes. We also spend a little time talking about the St John's result which spoiled an otherwise amazing Big East run for Marquette. We then talk NCAA tournament, initial seeding, NET rankings, and how exciting it is to not be team bubble watch. We turn to the week ahead which features only one game, but it's at DePaul which has always been a house of horrors for MU, albeit at the Rosemont but still. The goal is to just not lose to a {high pitched squeaky voice} competent DePaul team. We close out the pod talking about recruits who were at the Nova game and the need to always be recruiting. Optimistic Scrambled Eggs is back!

Call them ugly wins, but they are still wins and we've got 7 in a row and 15 out 16 of them. We talk about the latest wins against DePaul and Xavier, and our take aways, including the confidence in late game situations. There is some discussion of rankings, both voted and calculated, and the current tournament implications for the team. We then talk about about the next 3 games MU plays because we likely won't have a pod next week (silly vacations) so we break down the Butler, St Johns, and Villanova games. We project forward what we think the record will be, and lets just saw we've found our lost optimism. Tough set of games coming up, but if MU can pull off a 2-1 or 3-0 record they would be looking pretty, pretty, pretty good. Enjoy!

It's called a winning streak

It's another week and another pair of victories for #mubb, making it 5 in row a in conference play. We start the pod with a review of where Marquette is at with one third of the conference season behind us. We talk the Hauser brothers, rankings, metrics, and how we feel about the season to date. We then talk about the games that were played this week including how Markus getting hurt was a net positive for the team, the development of Theo John, and what we think of the job Wojo has done to date. We then pivot to the up coming games this week where #DLTD is a big topic and the belief that we can start 7-1 in conference play. We close out with a review of the festivities for Dwyane Wade day and a send off of Dwyane Wade. Enjoy!

Two wins and a cardiac screening, big week for #mubb

I'm assuming everyone has recovered from that crazy Creighton finish and the too close for comfort Seton Hall victory....no, oh well we're here to revisit it anyway. So we're going to talk the crazy Creighton win and how what we are most thankful in that is getting another exquisite Markus Howard performance. Also talk about how this team is demonstrating a different mental attitude than seasons past and what that means going forward. We touch on the Seton Hall game and talk about the implications of losing Morrow for the short term (we hope) due to injury.We then turn to this week in basketball and preview the Georgetown game as well as the Providence game. We also definitely spend a considerable amount of time reliving the Dwyane Wade years as we look add to his day at the Fiserv against Providence. Enjoy!

Ya win some, ya lose some, and ya get a new commit

It wasn't the week of #mubb basketball we were hoping for, but it certainly could have been worse. Having returned from New Year's we work backwards as we discuss the some what disjointed victory over Xavier before spending some time picking apart the shockingly lopsided lose to St John's. We then talk about the up coming week of games, including breaking down whether there actually is something to the MU "road woes" and if it will impact the game against Creighton and if Seton Hall gives us any concern. We close out the podcast welcoming MU's newest recruit, Symir Torrence to the fold, analyzing whether he stays 2020 or reclassifies for 2019 and what all this means in terms of needs for the next couple of recruiting classes.
