What a difference a quality win makes

Prepare yourselves, we thought this was going to be a relatively quick pod after a big Marquette win on Saturday against Creighton; turns out we have a lot to talk about.
We talk about the big win, did it matter that Watson didn't play for Creighton, and how much the win impacts Marquette for the rest of the season. We also preview the Villanova game including debating the relative values of a win or a loss in the game. We also spend some time cajoling fans to show up at the Bradley Center on Tuesday. As always, enjoy the pod.

Two Marquette games and two bad outcomes for very different reasons. First we focus on the most recent game, the drubbing in Philadelphia by Villanova. The game was a reflection of the talent disparity between Marquette and Villanova, but we try and figure out how reflective the result is on how MU can perform the rest of the season. We also talk about the performance of Luke Fischer and Haanif Cheatham's offensive issues within Big East play. We shift the topic to the tough, last minute loss at Seton Hall. With much chagrin, we relive the last minutes of the game and discuss what that may tell us about the team going forward. Having talked about all that, we take stock of where the team is currently and what might happen over the next several weeks. We talk about the rematch with Seton Hall and the always unsettling match up with DePail. While the last week has been pretty dishearening for Marquette fans, we find reason to be positive about the upcoming week for Marquette. Last, we spend a little time talking about potential recruit Harry Froling. Enjoy the week and lets hope Marquette can take a couple of victories this week.

We weren't expecting wins, but that doesn't mean we can't be disappointed

The end results of the two games against Top 10 teams were what we expected, but the means by which the results were delivered is an interesting discussion. In this weeks, podcast we break down the Villanova and Xavier games to see where this team is at and what (both positive and negative) can be learned. We spend time discussing defensive strategies and poor shooting as well if Henry's defense is a major issue. We also go on a little rant about student participation and fan support in general in this weeks edition of "crotchety old men". We then look forward to the next two weeks of supposed "get better" games as we play the two worst teams in conference and a non-con game against a cowboy hat.

Riding the roller coaster to start the Big East

Well the Big East has been a headscratcher and we're only 2/9ths of the way through. Life got in the way of podcasting but we're back at it and no better than we've ever been. We talk about all four conference games, what they mean, why they went the way they went, and what conclusions we can draw. This leads to a debate about player performance and what player we trust the most on this Marquette team. We then transition to Henry Ellenson: Overrated, Underrated or properly rated. After that lively debate it's time to talk the very difficult week ahead for Marquette basketball with a road trip to conference leader Villanova and home game against Xavier on the docket. Finally we wrap up with a little light recruiting news. Enjoy!

It's been a tough 10 days for MU basketball and I've run out of clever headlines

As the title indicates, we're exhausted and we think you are exhausted around MU basketball this season, but we'll get through this together on the podcast. Obviously we have to talk about the stomach punch games and deja vu that were the Providence and St John's game. They were very tough games, and yet more games we could have won but maybe shouldn't have been in a position to win. We then pivot from there to the Senior Day "festivities" and our impression of such things. Lastly, we spend a fair amount of time discussing the Big East tournament and potential match ups. We even try to be positive and create a path for MU to get to the championship and maybe sneak into the NCAA tournament, but to say it is a stretch is being unfair to this guy.

Unfortunately, the Villanova game went exactly how we feared it would. So after this past week, Marquette is 1-1 with no signature win on the season and very much looking from the outside of the bubble. We break down the game for what it's worth and touch on the Georgetown game a little bit. We then transition to what should be obvious, Marquette needs some serious luck and a conference tournament run to make the NCAA tournament. We don't think it likely but supposedly there is a chance. That discussion leads to another on schedule next year, and what the schedule should look like to help Marquette make this a one year downswing. Next on the hit list is what to expect this week against Providence and St John's, clearly must win if MU has any chances of making the tourny. Lastly, we spend time talking about each of the seniors and forecasting a dusty day in the Bradley Center for the senior events after the game. Hasn't been the best of weeks, but no reason not to pod about it.

It's come to this, after the disappointing Villanova loss, is the season

You watched the Villanova game and so did we. That game was simultaneously less frustrating and more frustrating than it seemed (probably won't make more sense on the pod, but give it a go). We breakdown the game, what went wrong, what went right, and does the result change any of our opinions. We also dive into the long lingering brush fire on twitter/message board/interwebs/bar time that is John Dawson vs Derrick Wilson. That discussion expands to the freshman minutes in general and Anonymous Eagle's call for more time for Dawson/Burton/JJJ. Once we add fuel to those fires, we move on to preview Providence and St Johns, and one of us is a total negative Nancy. The team may be down but the podcast is on the top of it's game, we even made it through without a single Seinfeld reference(we think). Give it a listen and lets all hope for less bad days.

First Scrambled Questions went well.....I think

Tuesday Jan 14, 2014
We asked you for your questions and you guys delivered...a lot of different stuff. Good questions, interesting questions, soliloquies disguised as questions, and some I just don't know what. So in return we delivered rambling, occasionally incoherent and definitely wandering answers to those questions. We covered a lot of ground and definitely enjoyed it. It's hard to detail everything we talked about so you'll just have to listen. Assuming you guys enjoy it we will definitely need to do Scrambled Questions again. So sit back, enjoy and remember, you asked us you have no one to blame but yourself

We talk about the disappointment in the Villanova game, what we think will happen in the Syracuse game, and carry on about a new conference that may or may not be centered around Catholicism.
